There's something enchanting about the idea of a journey taking place over the course of a single night. Similar in spirit to The Classical Unities of Aristotle where the events of a play would take place over the course of a single day. This being added to with the sunset/moonrise a symbol of going into the night where there are demons to be faced and through this passage is an enlightenment on the other end symbolized by the sunrise. Although it is romantic, discovering something is often rare to happen in such a short period, with it usually taking years of work built upon itself. Luckily, stories can fulfill our fantasies of simple elegance like this.
